New England Chapter Holds Candidate Night
The SIOR New England Chapter held its Candidates’ Night in
August at the InterContinental hotel on Boston’s waterfront.
More than 20 Chapter members, current SIOR New England
Chapter Candidates, and prospective Chapter Candidates
attended the event, allowing prospective Chapter Candidates
to meet with Chapter members and discuss the value of earning the SIOR designation.
New England Chapter and NEWIRE Hold Joint
Event
The SIOR New England Chapter and NEWIRE (New England
Women in Real Estate) once again teamed up to hold an evening
social event sponsored by Normandy Partners in September
at Hotel Indigo in Newton, Massachusetts. Approximately
70 industry professionals attended the event featuring guest
speaker Tim Cahill, Massachusetts Lt. Governor.
Oklahoma Chapter Holds “Consolidating a Business
Practice” Course

The SIOR Oklahoma Chapter recently held an SIOR Center
for Career Advancement course, “Consolidating a Business
Practice” taught by David Blanchard, SIOR, CCIM, CPM,
FRI. More than 30 Chapter members and prospective members attended the event held in September at the Holiday
Inn City Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The seminar provided
a review and understanding of macro marketing issues and
methods for building a successful real estate business.
Iowa-Nebraska Chapter Holds Annual Meeting
The SIOR Iowa-Nebraska Chapter held its annual meeting in
September at the Glen Oaks Country Club in Des Moines,
Iowa. Approximately 20 Chapter members and guests
attended the meeting featuring Dr. Arthur Cox, University of
Northern Iowa Real Estate Department Head, and Amanda
Donovan, University of Northern Iowa real estate student
and Iowa-Nebraska Chapter scholarship recipient, who spoke
briefly about the University’s Real Estate and Finance program
which has more than 170 students.
Carolinas Chapter Holds Fall Conference

In September, the SIOR Carolinas Chapter held their 2010
Fall Conference at the Sea Pines Resort in Hilton Head, South
Carolina. The conference included a Chapter meeting and many
social gatherings throughout the three-day event. Featured
speakers included; 2010 SIOR President, Lynn Reich, SIOR,
CCIM, FRICS who provided an update on SIOR and the overall commercial real estate market, and Lynn Pitts, Interim
President of the Savannah Economic Development Authority.
Pitts discussed the activity at the port in Savannah, one of the
busiest ports in the country.
Currently, the port is undertaking a dredging project that will
increase the depth of the river from 42 feet to 46 feet allowing larger more modern ships to operate from the port. These
improvements will have an effect on real estate, particularly
the industrial sector throughout the region. The conference
also featured round table discussions from the event’s Gold
Sponsors, Red Rock Development and Nexsen Pruitt law firm,
and concluded with an awards dinner on Saturday evening.
