President’s Message

Leading the Recovery
As top tier commercial real estate professionals it is our responsibility
to be leaders on this slow road to economic recovery. In any industry,
the key to success is information—knowing the market, knowing the
client, and knowing how to get the information you need. As SIORs
we have this capability and the leadership potential to drive business
throughout the upcoming year.
As your president, it is my job to put you in the best position to do
so—to retool and position SIORs as leaders of the recovery—through
education, technology, and expansion.
On Course in 2012
Technology
With changing information needs, the introduction of many new
real estate services, and the availability of new web technology,
SIOR is actively working to improve its technological services to
its membership. Recently, SIOR launched a new, user-friendly website, featuring an interactive online membership directory, and a
modern, streamlined design to enhance the user experience. SIOR’s
new website will not only improve services and offerings today, but
is flexible enough to allow for future growth.
To supplement the new website, SIOR is actively improving our
social media presence on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube.
These platforms provide SIOR members with all the benefits of
the SIOR network in one easy, mobile environment. Additionally,
SIOR’s social media network is now the best way to keep informed
with constant updates on real-time organizational, industry, and economic news.
Education
SIOR education provides us SIORs with the information and practices we need to drive business, outdistance the competition, and
set ourselves to the highest standard in our markets. Through the
SIOR Center for Career Advancement (CCA), we have the opportunity to attend seminars and other educational programs through
chapter hosted events. Additionally, the CAA is working to improve
its online offerings through the implementation of the new SIOR
website and social media presence.
Spring World Conference
I know we are all looking forward to the 2012 SIOR Spring World
Conference in Miami this May. As most of you know, SIOR World
Conferences provide members with a great opportunity to get
together, learn new practices, share ideas, and get the absolute most
out of the SIOR membership. Miami will be an excellent opportunity to connect and I hope to see you there!
Expansion
There are now 3,000 members in 29 countries closing more than
78,000 transactions a year. The quality of our members is what
makes SIOR so great. With this in mind we hope to attract the most
qualified professionals who have what it takes to join “the best of
the best.” I am continually amazed with how well SIOR Chapters
create programs that identify, cultivate, and recruit potential SIOR
members. As always, you can expect SIOR to provide chapters with
the resources they need to identify and recruit potential members.
International membership has grown to 78 members outside of
the U.S. and Canada. In January, we held an SIOR London luncheon, with more than 40 members and guests attending the event
from nine countries including, France, Germany, Ireland, the
Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States and
the United Kingdom. Additionally, the SIOR European Regional
Council (ERC) continues to make great strides in its development
as a chapter and now has nearly 60 members.
This year is going to be exciting for SIORS, and as always, for the
benefit of our members, your volunteer leadership team and headquarters staff are committed to building a better SIOR. Furthermore, I
would like to personally invite anyone who has thoughts, comments,
concerns, and/or suggestions about our efforts of the direction in
which SIOR is going please contact me at Geoff.Kreusser@colliers.
