The SIOR New England Chapter held its annual RW Holmes
Scholarship Evening in October at The Algonquin Club in
Boston’s BackBay. The event attracted more than 40 members,
spouses, and invited guests. The RW Holmes Scholarship was
named after Robert Holmes who was a long-time SIOR member,
past Chapter President, and founder of RW Holmes Realty. The
$2,000 award for an SIOR Designation Course is presented to an
SIOR New England Chapter Candidate who exemplifies a commitment to SIOR and stellar professionalism as an office and/or
industrial broker in the greater Boston market. This year there
were two co-recipients; John Dolan and Bill Lynch, Meredith &
Grew, Boston, Massachusetts.

The SIOR Eastern Canadian Chapter held its LEEDership
Conference in November at the IBM Tower in Montreal, Quebec.
Approximately 90 members, prospective members, and industry
professionals attended the event focusing on LEED and how it
affects you. The Chapter held a networking cocktail reception
following the seminar.

The SIOR European Regional Council (ERC) held its annual
holiday luncheon in December at the Burlington Hotel in
Dublin, Ireland. More than 15 members and prospective members attended the event. The ERC has continued to expand since
its inception a year ago and is planning several events in 2011.

In December, the SIOR New England Chapter and Massachusetts
Chapter of NAIOP held their annual end of the year commercial
real estate market review and forecast for 2011. Approximately
300 commercial real estate practitioners attended the event at
the Seaport Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts. The economic forecaster and the expert panelists included: Bill Wheaton, Professor
at MIT Center of Real Estate; Cathy Minnerly, NAI Hunneman
on the Industrial Market; John Boyle, FHO Partners on the
Suburban Market; Chuck Kavoogian, CB Richard Ellis on the
Cambridge Market; Ron Perry, Colliers Meredith&Grew on the
Boston Market and Ed Maher, Cushman & Wakefield on the
Capital Markets.
